96.3 KKOB in Albuquerque is off the air on its AM signal after a hot air balloon struck the station’s tower, knocking it to the ground.
Local TV news station KOAT aired a video captured by an observer of the tower collapsing Friday morning just after 9 AM local time.
Albuquerque TV meteorologist for KRQE News 13 Grant Tosterud shared a photograph of the KKOB tower as it lay crumbled on the ground after reporting that it had been struck by a hot air balloon. The Albuquerque International Balloon Festival is currently being held in the New Mexico city.
KKOB is currently off the air on the 770 AM frequency, while the simulcast on 96.3 FM remains intact. Early reports indicate that no one was injured in the collapse. The pilot and passengers of the hot air balloon that struck the tower were able to land safely after striking the structure.
