Hurricane Helene slammed western North Carolina last month, leaving the area reeling. 570 WWNC has been a critical lifeline to the area and Clay Travis broadcasted his nationally syndicated show from the station to show his support.
Travis was live in Asheville, North Carolina on Friday, October 11th to survey damage from the storm via helicopter and to raise awareness for fundraising efforts and volunteers needed to help return the area to normal, which is expected to take several months.
During The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show, the program welcomed 570 WWNC morning host and Program Director Mark Starling to speak about the critical role AM radio and the station — which is an affiliate of the Premiere Networks program — has been to the area.
“When TV couldn’t do it, the newspaper couldn’t do it, there was nothing online, the only thing left was AM/FM radio,” said Starling. “All seven stations stayed on the air simulcasted… we were wall-to-wall…what we wanted to do here at the radio station, at iHeart Asheville, was we wanted to show the community that we can get through this. And we’ve been kind of repeating this line: ‘Community is the answer to this crisis.’ …what we have seen is the absolute best in humanity in an absolute horrific, horrific time.”
Clay Travis took to social media to share some of the images he captured during his helicopter tour of the area.
