Spanish CHR station ‘Exitos 96.5’ (WOEX) in Orlando is out, and HITS 96.5 is in. Cox Media Group announced the new format will feature AC hits from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, except it comes with a twist. “HITS 96.5” will include a Spanish-language presentation.
The station’s lineup consists of Epi in mornings (6a-10a), Liliani in middays (10a-2p), Luis Angel in afternoons (2p-7p), and Martica at night (7p-12a). Details can be found via the station’s website by clicking here.
“Our responsibility as broadcasters is to serve our community – our entire community,” said VP/Market Manager JC Campese in a press release. “As Central Florida continues to grow, our community has asked for a station like Hits 96.5, and we’re proud to deliver this exciting new brand on the largest broadcast signal in the Orlando market.”
The blend of Spanish-language talent, and English-language music has had success in Florida already. iHeartMedia introduced “Magic 93.9” in Miami, performing quite well. In the September ratings book, the station finished 2nd overall. The Miami brand’s success influenced iHeart to try and duplicate the feat in Fort Myers, and Tucson.
“We’re thrilled to bring Hispanics in Orlando the music they grew up with from the 80s, 90s, and today, but with on-air personalities speaking to them in Spanish,” Director of Branding and Programming Raymond Hernandez said in a release. “We want to break out of the usual Latin formats and deliver music and content in the way Hispanics are accustomed to in their countries of origin.”
