Game 3 of the WNBA Finals saw the New York Liberty defeat the Minnesota Lynx 80-77 on a last second shot to take a 2-1 series lead in the best of five series. ESPN carried the broadcast and averaged 1.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched WNBA finals game ever on cable.
The audience peaked at 2 million viewers during the game and becomes the most-watched game overall in 23 years. The broadcast was up 112% over Game 3 of the 2023 WNBA Finals on ABC.
Jon Lewis of Sports Media Watch reports Game 3 posted the seventh-largest audience in Finals history, with the New York Liberty having played in five of those seven, seven of the top ten and eight of the top 12.
Game 4 of the series will be tonight at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. If a fifth and deciding game is needed, it would take place on Sunday Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. on ESPN and be up against NBC’s coverage of Sunday Night Football with the New York Jets at the Pittsburgh Steelers.
