NewsTalk 1290 in Amarillo is still on the air and undamaged after local fire departments were called to the Townsquare Media station Thursday.
Smoke detectors inside the building were going off, which led to questions from station employees.
“We all ventured out of our offices and studios to the high-pitched beeps of the smoke alarms trying to find out where the source of the screeching was coming from,” said the station’s Lori Crofford. “Luckily there was no visible smoke. Maybe a slight haze.”
Staffers decided it was best to leave the building, calling the Amarillo Fire Department. Three units and an ambulance responded to the situation in what the station called a swift manner.
NewsTalk 1290 reported that ultimately it was revealed that a blower motor on one of the furnaces at the complex had seized, leading to the smoke that set the detectors inside the building to alarm.
“Luckily, it wasn’t anything serious. No one was hurt and no damage was done to the building or the equipment.”
