As thousands of families in Western North Carolina continue to face the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Asheville Media Group (AMG) has announced the Rising Together: WNC Hurricane Relief Radiothon. This event will take place on Wednesday, October 30, from 6 am to 6 pm.
“This week will mark one month since Helene devasted Western North Carolina. There has been an enormous effort to bring relief, but it will take months, even years for many families impacted by Helene to rebuild,” said AMG Market President Tom Davis. “This storm was a reminder that local radio is a vital part of the response during disasters of this kind. We’re committed to doing all we can to support our Radiothon partners and our neighbors who are hurting but fighting hard to make their way through this and rebuild.”
As Hurricane Helene swept into Western North Carolina, the community was isolated from modern amenities, including power, utilities, and cell service. In this challenging environment, local radio emerged as the primary source of news, while neighbors and friends collaborated to share vital information and resources.
AMG Operations Director Steve Richards and his team ensured that the media group’s radio stations remained operational through simulcast broadcasts aimed at serving the community. “Our on-air team provided essential support, connecting with listeners who felt scared, alone, and overwhelmed. We disseminated vital information and resources, outlining how individuals could access food, water, and gasoline,” stated Richards. “We are pleased to have been able to offer a lifeline during this challenging period.”
AMG’s Rising Together: WNC Hurricane Relief Radiothon underscores the media group’s dedication to community service by showcasing organizations and volunteers focused on long-term relief and recovery efforts.
AMG stations include 105.9 The Mountain, Mix 96.5, 98.1 The River, Sports Radio 1310AM, 105.5 The Outlaw, and Rewind 100.3.
