ESPN Gainesville, WUFT-TV Sports Director Steve Russell to Retire After 27 Years at the University of Florida

Russell has been broadcasting his Sportscene radio show since 1998.

After nearly 27 years at the University of Florida, Steve Russell has announced his plan to retire at the end of the year. Russell serves as the sports director for ESPN Gainesville and WUFT-TV.

Russell has been broadcasting his Sportscene radio show since 1998. The show airs from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET each weekday.

After leaving the UF College of Journalism and Communications, Russell plans to continue his weekly sports segment, the Russell Report, with WCJB TV20 News on Mondays as well as his Gator Insider segment during football season.

Russell is a graduate of the University of Florida and has worked in the broadcast industry since the 1970’s in Gainesville.  In addition to his duties as Sports Director, Russell also works for the University Athletic Association and IMG as one of the radio voices for Florida Gators baseball broadcasts.  Steve Russell has also worked play-by-play and as a color analyst for Gator volleyball, women’s basketball and softball.
