Amazon Prime Video is set to take over NBA broadcast rights in 2025, and Ian Eagle is being viewed as the top choice for its play-by-play team.
According to a report from The New York Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel, Eagle is being viewed as the top candidate to join the streaming platform for its NBA coverage next year.
Eagle is currently the local voice of the Brooklyn Nets and calls NBA games for TNT Sports. He also announces the NFL and NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for CBS Sports, in addition to working NFL radio broadcasts for Westwood One.
Many expect Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle, the son of Ian, to serve as play-by-play broadcasters for the NBA on NBC when the network regains the broadcast rights for the 2025-2026 season.
There is some volatility in the next NBA TV deal. Warner Bros. Discovery is suing the league, arguing it has matching rights for the package ascribed to Amazon Prime Video. However, most observers expect Amazon to be a partner with the league going forward, regardless of the outcome of the litigation brought forth by the parent company of TNT Sports.
