Cumulus Country KBCY in Abilene, TX, welcomed back morning host Kelly Jay, who returned to the airwaves for the first time following the passing of his co-host, Dwayne “Doc” Alexander. (BMM 10/17)
Notable figures from the market, including former colleagues Rudy Fernandez and JB Cloud, accompanied Jay on the show, along with three of Alexander’s sons.
Kelly was also joined by his family and market competitors and explained that the bond they all shared was due to Doc: ” We crossed that barrier of competition into family.”
Rudy Fernandez of KEAN 105 remembers Doc’s humor as a highlight of the group. “He had things like, The Good Word From Doc Is What? ‘Beware of the tailfeathers on a duck. They’re there to hide the quack.’ He was the one that made us laugh.”
The emotional morning included three of Doc’s sons sharing the microphone that their father had used. “Just seeing the love these guys had for him was a really cool thing.”
