Conservative author Ryan Girdusky was banned by CNN this week after a racially charged comment made toward Mehdi Hasan. Clay Travis can relate to Girdusky, as he was reportedly banned from CNN in 2017 after a controversial comment of his own.
During The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show, the duo were discussing the situation between Girdusky and Hasan. That led Travis to offer some hope to Girdusky that the incident wasn’t an inherently negative one.
“I will say that it’s probably the best thing that ever happened to my career, honestly,” said Travis of his banning by CNN. “And my advice for anybody out there — certainly in media — is just don’t apologize. And that’s the one thing I would say that’s different than what Ryan did, because he apologized.
“They don’t actually ever want an apology. Now, look, if you say something that you didn’t intend to say, that’s different. But this was a joke. If you don’t like the joke, it’s not my problem. It’s on you.”
Girdusky was removed from the NewsNight program on CNN Monday after former MSNBC anchor Medhi Hasan said he’s used to pushback from conservatives due to his support of Palestine. That led Girdusky to say “I hope your beeper doesn’t go off,” alluding to the attack from Israel to the Hezbollah terrorist organization. However, it is Hamas, not Hezbollah, that controls the majority of Palestine.
Clay Travis has continually maintained that he is banned from appearing on CNN. In 2017, he told anchor Brooke Baldwin the only things he believes in absolutely are the First Amendment and boobs. Baldwin the ended the interview, and Travis has not appeared on the network since.
