Cumulus Media’s restructuring and budget cuts persist this week with the departure of morning hosts Mike D. DaSilva and Alexus Lee from Hip Hop Hot 106 in Providence, RI.
Both announced the news via Instagram Post.
“Well, there’s no easy way to say this… today was my last day at Hot 106. I’m still trying to process it. There’s no ill will or anger, just business. In any business, nothing is guaranteed. Right now, I mostly feel sadness. I grew up here, not just in my career but personally too. So much of my life happened while working at Hot 106. Things I dreamed of and cherished, things I shared with our audience along the way. It feels like leaving your childhood home. Even if you get a new place, there’s something special about the one you leave behind, said DaSilva.
Lee said, “I wish there was a more elegant way to say this but there isn’t so here we go… after 14 beautiful months my time at Hot 106 has come to an end. I never expected to work in radio, and definitely never expected to love it as much as I did but life brought me there. These last 14 months have been some of the most challenging and rewarding of my life and I am fundamentally different as a human for having had them.”
DaSilva has dedicated his twelve-year career to WWKX, anchoring the morning show since 2016. Initially partnered with Bekha Berger, he has co-hosted with Alexus Lee since January. In addition to his radio duties, DaSilva serves as the play-by-play voice for Rhode Island FC games on WWKX and 790 WPRV.
Lee, a local R&B singer and songwriter, has been making guest appearances on the show for several months before officially taking on the role of co-host.
