Three years after leaving TV news behind, Brian Williams is set to host a special for Amazon Prime Video on election night. And what that coverage looks like is coming into view.
Williams has remained largely out of the public eye since his contract with MSNBC expired in 2021, leading to his departure from The 11th Hour program. But for a one-night-only election special, he’ll host a program on Amazon Prime Video.
In an interview with Deadline, he shared that he’s willing to stay on the air for as long as it takes.
“I think we go a minimum of 10 hours, and I think it will grow north from there,” Williams said. “We don’t want to miss a moment, we don’t want to miss a vote, and we certainly don’t want to miss a projection. Along the way, we’re hoping to offer fantastic context from veterans in the field.”
Another former cable news host — Shepard Smith — will join the program. So will analysts like James Carville and former Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), who ran against Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) for the state’s Senate seat in 2022.
Brian Williams added that Amazon Prime Video is “going to try to make this quite different while of course bearing down on the fundamentals.
“We have no idea where the story will take us. We will do our due diligence and we will stick the fundamentals, and I think deliver some voices that cover all bases.”
Coverage for Election Night Live with Brian Williams begins at 5 PM ET on Amazon Prime Video.
