On Tuesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he would appoint Fox News host Pete Hegseth to the role of Secretary of Defense.

The host of FOX & Friends Weekend, Hegseth served in the Minnesota Army National Guard, where he served as an infantry platoon leader and earned the rank of Major. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, two Army Commendation Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, an Expert Infantryman Badge, and a Combat Infantryman Badge for his service during the war on terror in the Middle East.

Pete Hegseth joined Fox News as a contributor in 2014 before ascending to the role of weekend co-host of the network’s morning show.

In addition to his work at the cable news channel, Hegseth is also the author of four books released between 2016 and 2024.

“I’m not out to trash the military,” Hegseth told Barrett Media earlier this year about his latest book. “I revere my time in the military. I want [the military] to be what it was for me, for other people, and not look like a college or a university playing identity politics.”
