Hey now! WFAN and the New York Yankees have found their man. Audacy has announced that 71-year-old Dave Sims will be the new radio play-by-play voice of the team starting with the 2025 season. Sims will be taking over for 86-year-old John Sterling who retired a few games into last season before coming back at the end of the season and post-season, which saw the team advance to the World Series.

“The radio voice of the Yankees is a storied position in the history of baseball,” said Chris Oliviero, New York Market President, Audacy in a release. “From Allen and Barber to Rizzuto to Sterling, the names are synonymous with the pinstripes. Dave Sims is a worthy successor to that lineage. We are honored to have Dave join the incomparable Suzyn Waldman in the booth in the Bronx.”

“It’s great to be home,” said Sims. “What an honor to be part of the iconic Yankees franchise. New York is where it all started for me, and I can’t wait for Opening Day and to work with my good friend Suzyn!”

Sims has been the television voice of the Seattle Mariners since 2007. Sims lives in New York during the offseason with his wife and there are other family members close by. Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com had reported Sims was interviewing and Sims told the paper at the time, “We’ll see what happens. I love what I’m doing here in Seattle. New York is home. That’s all I can say.”

Sims is a familiar voice to WFAN listeners. He and Ed Coleman hosted middays on the station from 1989 to 1993. Sims was also the radio host for New York Knicks basketball from 1986-1993. Sims has also worked for NBC, ESPN, FOX and Westwood One nationally.
