John Isley and Billy James “The Big Show with John Boy & Billy” will end a 38-year run with iHeartMedia Classic Rock station “99.7 The Fox” WRFX Charlotte, NC, tomorrow. (11/15)
“The Big Show with John Boy & Billy” will continue to be broadcast in syndication through iHeart’s Premiere Networks, which airs on a variety of 50 Country and Rock radio stations, including Audacy’s “Classic Rock 101” WROQ-FM in Greenville, SC, Cumulus’s “KZ 106” WSKZ in Chattanooga, iHeart’s “96.1 The Rocket” WRKH in Mobile, and Midwest’s 103.5 WIMZ in Knoxville. Premiere Networks renewed this agreement in September.
John Isley and Billy James have partnered since 1981, when they began their morning show at 107.9 WBCY in Charlotte. In 1986, they transitioned to WRFX, and the station adopted its Rock format.
The duo expanded their reach through syndication in 1993, following a previous attempt by WZGC in Atlanta to bring their show there. Their popularity surged, culminating in over 100 stations carrying the program when it joined Premiere in the early 2000s.
