Former WEEI host Larry Johnson has passed away at the age of 75.
Johnson, who hosted weekends alongside Craig Mustard, retired from the Audacy Boston sports talk station five years ago. In addition to working as WEEI, Larry Johnson was a sports cartoonist for outlets like the Boston Globe, ESPN.Com, and National Sports Daily, among others.
In a post to social media, John’s former partner shared a touching tribute.
“Larry and I spent nearly 30 years together arguing on the air and bonding off it,” he wrote. “The best partner ever and I had some good ones. And what laughs! We looked at sports and life through different lens, but our respect and love for each other was never in doubt. He made me a better broadcaster and more empathetic person. What a privilege it was to know him. Rest in Peace, Larry.”
Former colleague Gerry Callahan also took to social media to remember Johnson.
“He was in the talk radio and newspaper business for 40 years and somehow never made an enemy,” shared Callahan. “Just a wonderful big bear of a man who was always the first to reach out in good times and bad. And a really great cartoonist.”
