KTAR News 92.3 Reporter Jim Cross Announces Retirement

"I have no regrets at all. It was 25 great years. I got to some great things and worked with some awfully great people."

After a long, Hall of Fame career, KTAR News 92.3 reporter Jim Cross will step away from the Bonneville Phoenix news/talk station.

Cross has spent 25 years at the station as a news reporter, and earned election to the Arizona Broadcasters Hall of Fame for his work in the market in 2022. He also has won awards from the Associated Press during his long tenure.

“Now in the home stretch,” Cross said of his upcoming departure. “A million memories. It’s been an amazing ride that I wouldn’t trade for anything. We’ll see what the next chapter brings.”

“There comes a time in this business … where you just say ‘Ok. That’s enough,'” Cross said while speaking about his retirement with the station’s Mike Broomhead.

Broomhead shared there was “an audible gasp” from KTAR staffers when it was announced that Cross would be stepping away from the station. He asked the outgoing reporter if he’d had any second thoughts about his retirement.

“Not really,” admitted Cross. “It was very touching. I had a very hard time getting through (making the announcement) … Overall, no. It was time for a change. But I have no regrets at all. It was 25 great years. I got to some great things and worked with some awfully great people.”

While spending the last 25 years at KTAR News 92.3, Jim Cross has more than 40 years in the radio business originally working in Idaho and Washington. He worked at KAAA in Kingman, Arizona as well, joining the station three days before the Oklahoma City bombing. Timothy McVeigh had lived in the Arizona city before the bombing, with Cross’ reporting leading him to work at KTAR.
