The Rick & Bubba Show has concluded its run after three decades on air. Co-hosts Rick Burgess and Bill “Bubba” Bussey bid farewell for the final time on Friday morning. Both are set to embark on new ventures in broadcasting and other fields starting in 2025.
The final broadcast was marked by sentimental moments, most notably a guest appearance from Bussey’s children, Hunter and Katelyn. The duo shared their experiences of growing up in the show’s spotlight, which aired for over 8,000 episodes.
Originating from SummitMedia’s 104.7 WZZK in Birmingham, AL, the program developed a dedicated fan base throughout the Southeastern United States, reaching more than 60 stations across 18 states.
Rick Burgess will launch his new syndicated program, The Rick Burgess Show, on January 6. The show will be distributed by Syndicated Solutions, Inc., the same company that previously managed Rick & Bubba.
Alongside Burgess, familiar faces Speedy, Greg, and Adler will join the new venture. All current Rick & Bubba affiliates have secured the program, and SSI announced that additional affiliate updates will be forthcoming.
Bussey has begun a new chapter as the assistant athletic director for Broadcasting at Jacksonville State University. A graduate of Jackson State, where his radio career started at WLJS, he now leads all broadcast operations for Gamecock athletics.
Since taking on this role in August, he has successfully expanded the Gamecock Radio Network to include 11 stations across eight cities, marking the largest affiliate network in the program’s history.
