The longtime sports talk show hosted by the father-son duo of Bob and Jeff Lutz on KFH Radio 1240 will be coming to an end, announcing that the final edition of the program will air on Friday, Feb. 7. Bob Lutz announced the decision on his Facebook page earlier in the week, emphasizing that a recent timeslot change played a factor in the end of the run. Jim Rome, who is nationally syndicated across Westwood One platforms, moved the time of his program in concurrence with Rich Eisen’s program airing on the Infinity Sports Network. This resulted in the program moving to the 5 to 7 p.m. CST time slot, a change that Denise Neil of the Wichita Eagle reported left the hosts not thrilled considering it did not align with their work schedules.
The duo had tried to record the show earlier in the day for it to air in the new timeslot, but Bob Lutz felt the program did not have the same sound. Had the show remained in its 2 to 4 p.m. CST slot, Lutz estimates that the show could have continued “indefinitely.” Outside of hosting the radio show, Lutz runs the League 42 baseball league, while his son, Jeff, works as a full-time digital producer at KWCH-TV. Once the Bob and Jeff show comes to an end, the station is going to fill the remaining on-air time with a syndicated show while considering looking for more local sports talk talent in the future.
“It has been fun to be with my son on this show and to jostle with him on a near-daily basis,” Bob Lutz wrote on social media. “And Jason Duda has become a good friend during our run, as has our producer and engineer, Max Power. I don’t know what the future holds. Maybe I’ll miss the radio gig so much that I’ll come crawling back for another opportunity. But mostly I just think it’s going to be so nice having a little more time to myself, [my family] and League 42. I will stay busy and appreciate all of you who have read me and listened to me over these many years.”
Outside of Bob and Jeff, the morning drive Sports Daily show is the only other local program that airs on the station during its weekday prime hours. Once Jacob Albracht and Tommy Castor complete the four-hour program, the station moves to syndicated offerings from Infinity Sports Network and Westwood One, including Eisen and Rome, before moving back into local programming with the afternoon drive show. Infinity Sports Network airs the remainder of programming on the station until the following morning.
