The Miami Marlins have named Jack McMullen as the lead play-by-play announcer for the Marlins Radio Network, commencing his career broadcasting MLB games. McMullen spent the last three seasons on the radio broadcast for the Indianapolis Indians, the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Since the beginning of 2021, he has also worked as a host and director of podcasting for Just Baseball Media while also having play-by-play experience for ESPN+ and Learfield. McMullen started working in the sports media business calling games for the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod League and the Auburn Doubledays, a former Short-Season A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
McMullen is a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications where he studied broadcast and digital journalism. While matriculating at the university, he was a member of WAER-FM and called various sporting events on campus, some of which include football, men’s basketball and men’s lacrosse. The Marlins hiring McMullen represents the second move of the offseason to the broadcast team following the team and FanDuel Sports Network Florida naming previous radio voice Kyle Sielaff as the play-by-play announcer for television broadcasts.
“We can’t wait to introduce Jack to the South Florida community as we enter an exciting chapter of Marlins Baseball, and we know Jack is the perfect fit to tell our story,” Jon Erik Alvarez, vice president of public relations and communications for the Miami Marlins, said in a statement. “His broadcast style, baseball knowledge, and vast multimedia experience will connect with our listeners and extend the reach beyond the booth as we look to improve upon the recent growth of the Marlins Radio Network.”
McMullen will be making his debut on the Marlins Radio Network on Saturday, Feb. 22 as the club opens its spring training slate of games. Throughout the year, he will be joined by a rotation of analysts that includes Rod Allen, Jeff Nelson, Gaby Sánchez and Kelly Saco. Furthermore, new personalities are also joining the lineup, including Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Craig Minervini and former All-Star reliever AJ Ramos. As part of his role, McMullen will also be working with Stephen Storm on creating ancillary content for the Marlins Radio Network.
