Joe Rogan: My Podcast Grew in Popularity Due to Lack of Trust in Mainstream Media

"Nobody wants to hang out with Brian Stelter. None of these people are people that people can relate to and like.”

The Joe Rogan Experience has seen a steady rise in popularity in recent years. He believes it’s directly related to the diminishing trust in mainstream media outlets.

During a recent conversation with comedian Bridget Phetasy, Rogan said that legacy media outlets aren’t “going to course correct” on their coverage of President Donald Trump.

In particular, Joe Rogan called out mainstream media outlets as reason for his program’s popularity, as well as the rise of digital outlets.

“We don’t trust The New York Times, we don’t trust The Washington Post, we don’t trust CNN or MSNBC,” said Rogan. “They’re all full with propaganda. And so that’s why the internet rose. It’s not because there was some sort of a f—ing right-wing conspiracy, heavily funded. No, you guys suck. You guys f—ing suck, and you’re not real people. Nobody wants to hang out with Brian Stelter. None of these people are people that people can relate to and like.”

He added his belief that the Democratic Party has a fundamental misunderstanding of why Trump and other right-wing pundits and politicians have become so popular.

“It’s all nonsense. Their understanding of social media and the dynamics you set up by having completely state-controlled mainstream media where they only said the narratives you guys wanted,” said Rogan. “They all said it in step, so you could watch different programs repeat the exact same words and exact same phrases.”
