SportsTalk 790 morning show co-host Brian LaLima will be stepping down from his role with The Sean Salisbury Show, effective today. The show announced the news on Thursday morning, revealing that he will be departing the station for an opportunity outside the industry.

LaLima originally joined SportsTalk 790 in Houston in July of 2022, according to his LinkedIn profile. Since his debut on The Sean Salisbury Show on July 5 of that year, he has been a key part of the program. On Thursday, Salisbury personally made the announcement via X.

“I need to publicly thank my Sean Salisbury Show co-host of the last three years, Brian LaLima, who is moving on for a career in oil/gas, for being the best teammate I’ve ever had in local radio in 30 years of this career,” shared Salisbury. “The chemistry, fun, passion, and great banter we’ve had is irreplaceable. You revitalized my love for this job! A great friend and co-host, and we will find a way soon to do this again soon. Appreciate and love you, brother!”

Before transitioning into broadcasting, LaLima played college baseball at Sul Ross State University for three seasons, later earning a BA degree in mass communications. Prior to joining iHeartMedia’s SportsTalk 790 in Houston, he spent six years working in sales and marketing.

Although exact details on LaLima’s next steps were not disclosed, he had hinted at his plans earlier in the week.

“I’m going back to oil and gas,” said LaLima. “Salary is one (reason) of them, it’s hard to live right now. I love this job, but there’s other things in life that you need to be successful, and it’s just not working out right now.”

In response to the news, Salisbury expressed his disappointment, emphasizing that LaLima was the best co-host he had ever worked with.

“If I was involved, I’d pay you a lot more,” said Salisbury. “The show will suffer without you. The show has never been better.”

Despite the difficult decision, LaLima expressed gratitude for his time on the program and appreciation for the team at SportsTalk 790.

“Sometimes you come to a crossroads in your life, and you have to make an adult decision,” said LaLima.

Reflecting on LaLima’s impact, Salisbury credited him with rejuvenating his career in Houston.

“I needed a shot of Red Bull, and you were a full case,” stated Salisbury. “I hate to see it happen. Yeah, it sucks. The show, it’ll be good. But it’ll be different because the laughs and joy we had. You made my career.”
