WRVA in Richmond has tabbed former sports talk radio host Rich Herrera as its new morning host.
The new WRVA host has a long history in the sports talk radio format. Herrera’s most recent radio stop had been as Program Director and host at Wildcats Radio 1290 in Tucson, Arizona, where he also served as the pregame show host for University of Arizona athletic broadcasts. He also spent time as an Executive Producer for the San Diego Padres radio network.
Additionally, he served as a host on the Infinity Sports Network, previously known as CBS Sports Radio. Other stops include working at MLB Network Radio for SiriusXM, 790 The Ticket in Miami, 97.3 The Fan in San Diego, KNBR in San Francisco, and as a sports host at KMOX in St. Louis, among several other stops.
“After years in sports radio, I felt the need to expand my horizons,” Herrera said in a post on social media announcing the move. “Like so many of you, I’ve looked around at the direction of our country and thought, ‘How can I make a difference?’ Now, I get the opportunity to do just that—asking the tough questions, holding our leaders accountable, and bringing people together instead of driving them apart.”
Rich Herrera will helm Richmond’s Morning News on the Audacy news/talk station from 6-9:50 AM each weekday. He replaces John Reid, who departed the station earlier this year in advance of a run for the Lieutenant Governor’s office in Virginia. Reid had been with the station since 2017.
