Greta Van Susteren has had a long career in cable news across a variety of networks. However, she says her stint at MSNBC was the only one that created conflict.
The current Newsmax host made an appearance with Tara Palmeri on The Red Letter. During a discussion about the potential scrapping of Voice of America by the Donald Trump administration, Van Susteren said that her time with MSNBC — which last just a few months in 2017 — was short due to clashes with the network over her show and content.
“MSNBC tried to tell me what to do,” Van Susteren said. “I almost thought they were joking because I had like a 15 or 18-year career in the news business and nobody ever told me and so it never occurred to me.”
Greta Van Susteren had previously worked at both CNN and Fox News before joining MSNBC. She added that her inability to take the direction that the network management wanted her program to go was the reason her tenure with MSNBC was as short as it was.
“That’s why I got fired at MSNBC. Because they said I needed to play ball, and I thought that didn’t work,” she concluded.
After her departure, Van Susteren joined Voice of America as a contributor. She later hosted a syndicated talk show for Gray Television before ultimately joining Newsmax in 2022. At Newsmax, Greta Van Susteren anchors the 6 PM ET newscast called The Record with Greta Van Susteren.
