One month ahead of the NFL Draft taking place in Green Bay, Wisc., ESPN has announced that it has re-signed analyst Matt Miller to a multiyear contract. Miller, who first joined ESPN in 2021 as an NFL Draft analyst, has been contributing to on-air coverage live from the event for the last two years and also brings his insights and expertise on a variety of studio programs and digital platforms. Under this new deal, Miller will remain part of the third-day television presentation from the NFL Draft and continue providing year-round Draft coverage on the ESPN website and app.
Amid the NFL Draft season, Miller is going to appear on various programs across the network lineup, including SportsCenter, Get Up, NFL Live and other mock draft specials. Miller will also be part of ESPN+ exclusive specials during this time of year as well. On the third day of the NFL Draft, he will be on the airwaves with Mel Kiper Jr., Louis Riddick, Field Yates and Rece Davis as the fourth round of the action commences. In a previous interview with Barrett Media, Miller talked about how Kiper Jr. pushed for ESPN vice president of production Seth Markman to add him to the broadcast, a gesture that was indicative of validation and belief in his abilities.
“There’s some expectations [when] the guy who is the godfather of this industry vouches for you and says, ‘Hey, I want him on coverage,’” Miller said. “You really want to not let him down – not only because he is a mentor and the person who started what we do now – but when somebody goes out on a limb for you, you don’t want to mess it up. That was in the back of my head a little bit.”
Prior to joining ESPN four years ago, Miller worked as the lead NFL Draft writer at Bleacher Report where he took part in mock drafts, wrote comprehensive stories and provided scouting reports surrounding prospects. Miller is a graduate of Missouri Southern State University and previously worked as the lead director of scouting for New Era Scouting for parts of five years. Coverage of the NFL Draft across ESPN, ABC, ESPN2 and NFL Network averaged 5.74 million viewers across three days last year, representative of a 3% year-over-year decline in this regard.
