Former KDKA news anchor and reporter Dave James has died at the age of 85.

James joined KDKA Radio in 1971 and spent nearly 35 years with both the radio and television station as a news anchor and reporter. A native of Georgia, he began his career in 1956 in Macon, Georgia at WNEX before taking a job at KQV Radio after previously working as a news anchor at Channel 11 in Pittsburgh.

“One thing about Dave James, he lived life to the fullest,” said former colleague Rob Pratte. “He loved tennis. He loved to laugh, but he loved getting the story.”

After his time at KDKA came to a close, Dave James worked at Pittsburgh Business Radio and Renda Broadcasting stations, which included WHJB, WSHH, and WJAS.

As per his requests, there will be no memorial service for the longtime radio reporter. Instead, friends and family are encouraged to “raise a glass of beer in Dave’s honor, saying he would have loved to share many more.”

Dave James is survived by his three children and six grandchildren.
