CNN has announced the addition of Sarah Owermohle as a new reporter focused on covering politics and health policy in the United States.
Owerhmohle joins the network after previously working at STAT, where she served as a Washington-based correspondent, covering the health care field as it related to the United States government.
Other previous stops also include Politico, S&P Global Market Intelligence, and five years working in Dubai and Beirut reporting on business and finance in the Middle East and Africa. That included a three-year stint working as an editor for the Banker Africa magazine.
The addition of Sarah Owermohle comes as CNN is in the midst of a shift in focus to its digital products and offerings. The network — which features one of the most popular news websites in the world — has enacted a paywall asking some visitors to pay $3.99 per month for access to its digital news products. Despite the paywall, much of the network’s current content — like the homepage, breaking news stories, live updates to stories, standalone video pages, and show highlights — will remain free for users and will not count against the limit of free articles or stories readers can access monthly.
Owermohle will be based at the Washington D.C. bureau when she begins her tenure at CNN.
