Over the last several weeks, Pablo Torre has made national headlines with his reporting about the situation regarding University of North Carolina head football coach Bill Belichick and his relationship with Jordon Hudson. Torre has divulged the information he has gathered through episodes of his podcast, Pablo Torre Finds Out, which operates within the Meadowlark Media portfolio. Torre also recently used his X account to try and get in contact with Sir Mix-A-Lot about a story he is working on, which proved to be successful. Moreover, he responded to another user who asked when Nick Wright and Kevin Wildes would return to the program, articulating that Wright had not replied to his invite.
Wright appeared on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz this past Wednesday where he took time to address what Torre had circulated on social media. Although he did not believe that they had any sort of media beef, Wright feels that the tweet Torre sent made it seem like it was the case. In response, Wright put his phone up to the camera that demonstrated he had 457 unopened text messages, 390 missed calls and over 12,000 emails.
“If you always instantly reply to texts, then when you are trying to duck or avoid someone or a tough conversation or something and you don’t reply, they know something’s up,” Wright said. “If you’re just generally rude to everyone, then if you’re trying to avoid someone it’s like, ‘Oh, I didn’t see that,’ and they’re like, ‘Oh, it might be true.’”
Wright explained that the three programs on which he is a recurring guest is The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, the Dan Patrick Show and The Herd with Colin Cowherd. Furthermore, he talked about how the shows contain three of his professional idols and is always available whenever they call. Wright then described how he handles shows hosted by people with whom he is friendly, such as The Greg Cote Show with Greg Cote through Meadowlark Media. The appearance simply required him opening his laptop, whereas taking part in Pablo Torre Finds Out requires more work on his end in paying for a car to arrive at a studio.
“Like, ‘Buddy, this is costing me money and it’s a lot of time,’ and I’ll be honest,” Wright said. “I thought it was fine. I didn’t think we were going to win any Peabodys ourselves with that, ‘Hey Nick, here’s your bad takes of the last year – defend them’ pod, so I don’t think it’s a beef. I didn’t know that I was a recurring guest like you see certain people on TV shows, so that’s all it was.”
Earlier in the segment, show contributor Amin Elhassan posited that Torre may have lost a recent Peabody nomination because of a theory set forth by producer Billy Gil. Le Batard replied by asking if it was the Belichick reporting, questioning that he was doing it for clicks and calling it cheap and dirty. Wright was happy to hear him say that, expounding on how he finds it fascinating that Torre attended Harvard University and is an intelligent professional but that this story is garnering significant attention on his podcast.
“He has done some really valuable and important reporting on that podcast — I don’t say that sarcastically, I mean it,” Wright explained. “I think that stuff that he did about trans athletes was groundbreaking and really good, and the only thing anybody cares about is the Belichick’s girlfriend story.”
“…Yesterday, he said — he was like, ‘I’m willing to take them to court if they don’t fulfill their Freedom of Information Act requirements,’ and I’m like, ‘You know what Pablo? In this moment of America at this very time, I can think of no better use of a state court’s time than, ‘Hey man, who got copied on whose email?’’ It’s just the greatest, and I love that this is where everyone is paying attention because it is objectively a good podcast.”
