Earlier this year, Bill Spadea departed New Jersey 101.5 in an effort to chase the state’s Republican nomination for governor. It did not end with him securing the votes.
In the primary election held Tuesday, Spadea was defeated by former state representative Jack Ciattarelli.
According to results published by Decision Desk HQ, Spadea finished second in a field of five behind Ciattearelli. He garnered just under 100,000 votes, good for 22% of the total votes cast by Republicans in the state. He did not win any of New Jersey’s 21 counties.
Spadea had spent nearly a decade hosting mornings at New Jersey 101.5. But in June last year, he announced he would seek the Republican nomination for Governor in the state. As the primary began to heat up, he departed the news/talk station in January in an effort to spend more time campaigning for the state’s highest office.
His departure coincided with challenges by Ciattarelli’s camp that the station and parent company Townsquare Media were providing improper benefits to Spadea’s campaign by not following established equal time laws. However, both entities had previously been found not to have stepped afoul of the laws in a previous challenge by Ciattarelli before Spadea decided to leave the station.
As of this publication, Bill Spadea has yet to address the results of last night’s election. He has also previously remained mum on if he would be interested in a return to radio should he not be successful in his run for the nomination.
