Yahoo Media Group is making a significant move in the sports business coverage space. The company has launched a dedicated sports business hub available across both Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Finance. I am proud to share that Barrett Media is a part of it.
The new sports business hub unites some of the most respected names in sports business journalism. The full list of publications can be found below. Reporters and analysts from each partner will appear on Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Finance programming, including Yahoo Sports Daily and Opening Bid Unfiltered.
Yahoo Media Group President Ryan Spoon explained the thinking behind the new venture: “Rapid changes in technology, media rights, and the investment landscape are making the business of sports more important than ever. Fans and investors alike want deeper insight and sharper perspective. We’re excited to deliver that to both Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Finance audiences through smart, in-depth coverage powered by an exceptional group of industry-leading partners.”
The hub will also feature original reporting from Yahoo itself. Dylan Dittrich and Shlomo Sprung join the platform as part of Yahoo’s investment in expanding its sports business coverage.
The timing is deliberate. Sports media rights deals, private equity investment in leagues, and athlete entrepreneurship have pushed sports business coverage into the mainstream conversation. Moreover, the audience for that coverage now spans casual fans and institutional investors simultaneously. Yahoo is building a single destination to serve both.
For Barrett Media, the partnership expands the brand’s reach significantly. The hub positions Barrett’s reporting and commentary alongside the industry’s most established sports business voices. It also exposes the outlet to one of the largest digital audiences in the country.
