Glenn Ordway is heading back to the mic. The longtime WEEI voice announced a new podcast set to debut this week.
What We Know: Ordway spent over five decades in radio, most notably at WEEI and with the Boston Celtics. Ordway was the radio voice of the Celtics from 1982-95, and spent 34 years as a host at WEEI. His greatest success at the station came while helming the highly-rated afternoon drive program “The Big Show” in the ‘90s and early 2000s. Ordway stepped away from daily hosting at WEEI in 2021. Now he’s launching a podcast with the first episode drops Wednesday.
What They Said: Glenn Ordway (via X): “Retirement has been great. Spending more time with the family and traveling. But as much as I cherish my free time, I miss the action. So, it’s time to satisfy that urge and become the 6 millionth person to host a podcast.”
Glenn Ordway (via X): “I spent 50 yrs in the business. I met, worked and interviewed some of the most interesting and fascinating people. So, why not go back and RE-CONNECT with them? Reminisce but also talk about what’s happening today. Since there’s no corporate boss, [or] no program director or GM, I can do whatever the hell I want.”
What Remains Unclear: Details remain scarce beyond the announcement itself. Ordway hasn’t named guests, a release schedule, or a distribution platform. It’s also unclear whether the podcast will pair with any WEEI-affiliated outlet or talent. However, Ordway suggested more sports-radio veterans could soon have free time to join him.
What It Means: Ordway’s move taps into a broader trend that continues today. Veteran broadcasters trading corporate structure for creative freedom. Consequently, longtime listeners get unfiltered access to stories once left on the cutting-room floor. Meanwhile, it signals continued audience appetite for nostalgia-driven sports content. Ultimately, Ordway could carve out a new lane with this podcast to extend well past his WEEI run.
