Bert Weiss doesn’t regret walking away from “The Bert Show.” One year after leaving Atlanta radio, the longtime host now spends his time traveling and podcasting.
What We Know: Weiss hosted “The Bert Show” for 25 years, starting on Q100 in 2001. In 2010, he took ownership of the show from Cumulus. He then syndicated it to more than 20 markets, including Nashville and Indianapolis. Weiss ended the program in October 2025. Since then, he has taken more than a dozen trips. Last week, he launched the travel podcast “Trip Happens” with his wife, Amanda. Additionally, Pionaire, the podcast company Weiss founded in 2021, now has 10 shows. On Monday, it debuted longtime cast member Kristin Klingshirn’s daily show “Barely Functioning.”
What They Said: Weiss told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that leaving was the right call. He also explained why the timing made sense.
“I left two years of salary on the table, but I just knew in my heart it was the right time.” -Bert Weiss
Weiss also pointed to the sudden 2013 death of Kidd Kraddick as a factor. He made his feelings clear.
“I didn’t want to end up like Kidd.” -Bert Weiss
What Remains Unclear: It’s unknown if Weiss would ever consider returning to radio. It’s also unclear how Atlanta’s new morning shows will fare without the brand Weiss built. As for Weiss’ company, Pionaire has not yet shared audience or revenue figures for its podcasts.
What It Means: Weiss built one of radio’s most successful morning franchises. Now, he’s applying that experience to a podcast company he controls. As a result, his story shows how top radio talent can extend their brands beyond the dial. For Atlanta radio, however, the competition to replace “The Bert Show” is still wide open.
