The award honors individuals who have used the written word to advance creativity, conviction, innovation and scholarship and who have had a significant impact on culture and the community through their work. 

Hitzges returned for the all-day event after retiring from the station in June.

Radio has been alive in Dallas for 102 years, and Norm Hitzges has been on the air for nearly half of them. He deserves more than a weeklong sendoff.

“I shall so miss the daily 'rush' of being on the air. But after 48 consecutive years on the air in Dallas doing sports talk, it’s time to move on to the next phase of my life, whatever that may be.”
