The NFL Draft will get a third network outlet this year. ABC will join sister network ESPN and the NFL Network in airing all three days of the event in April, and today on Good Morning America, it was announced that the network found the perfect bridge between its audience and the sports audience.
Former ESPN anchor and current GMA host Robin Roberts announced that she will serve as the host of ABC’s opening round coverage on April 25.
The bulk of ABC’s coverage of the NFL Draft will feature ESPN’s College Gameday Crew. They will appear on a set separate from Roberts.
Roberts will be set up on Nashville’s historic Broadway entertainment district. In addition to conducting interviews with the players selected, she will also introduce video packages that tell their stories.
In a press release promoting Roberts’s involvement in the broadcast, ESPN noted that “Roberts is no stranger to ESPN and the NFL. The award-winning anchor and host started her national broadcasting career as a SportsCenter anchor. At ESPN, she covered the NFL Draft and was a regular contributor to NFL PrimeTime.”
