Fox Sports president Mark Silverman was interviewed by John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal this week. The two discussed Fox’s commitment to event programming and the changes it felt were needed to make Thursday Night Football a success.
One interesting topic of conversation was over-the-top streaming platforms. All of Fox’s biggest competitors are already in the space. Silverman said he isn’t eager to follow the trend.
“We want to pick our spots really carefully,” Silverman told Ourand. “I think, there’s a lot of players in the OTT space, there seems to be an exuberance in programming, rights fee increases that are in that world. And I think, at this point, we’re very content to kind of be on the sidelines, observe.”
Silverman didn’t rule out Fox investing in a streaming service in the future, but noted that right now the “OTT space is a bit crowded, it’s a bit expensive, and I think for now we’re comfortable where we are.”
