The NFL took steps today to ensure that every market will see three games during the daytime hours on Sundays. It wasn’t a problem that effected every NFL market, but drew complaints from fans in the markets it did.
The “single header rule” has been eliminated. That rule made it so that markets with two “home” teams (ie New York, DC/Baltimore, the Bay Area, etc.) would only get one early game and one late game on CBS and Fox. The rest of the country was guaranteed three daytime games every Sunday.
Eliminating the single header rule is not permanent at this point. The league will try it for the 2019 season before making a final decision.
