Kentucky Sports Radio Hosts Memorial For Lorenzen

Matt Jones and his Kentucky Sports Radio crew did a show live from Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, Kentucky on Thursday to honor the late Jared Lorenzen, a Highlands graduate. Lorenzen went on to play quarterback for the Univeristy of Kentucky, and won a Super Bowl as a member of the New York Giants in 2007.

Jones and co-hosts Ryan Lemond and Drew Franklin were joined on the broadcast by Lorenzen’s family members, teammates and coaches sharing their favorite stories about the Hefty Lefty.

The broadcast also served as a fundraiser. Jones established the Jared Lorenzen Memorial Fund on GoFundMe. The money raised goes to the educational needs of Lorenzen’s two children. $24,000 was raised during the KSR broadcast.

“I believe, definitively, (he) is the most popular player in UK football history,” Jones said. “When you’re talking about the most beloved and the person that is the fan favorite, he’s in the conversation, period in terms of UK athletes because of the way people saw him in high school.”

Jared Lorenzen died on July 3 after being admitted to the hospital last month. He was in an intensive care unit receiving dialysis to treat renal issues while also suffering from heart disease and an infection. Lorenzen was 38 years old.
