Former NBA MVP Steve Nash could be coming back to soccer fans’ televisions next season. According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Nash and Turner are in the early stages of negotiations on a new contract that would see the basketball star return to the company’s coverage of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
When Turner first acquired UEFA’s US TV rights, it signed a one year deal with Nash to be a part of the team. It may have seemed strange, but Nash has a long history with soccer. Both his father and brother played professionally, and Steve Nash himself has ownership stakes in both the Vancouver Whitecaps of the MLS and La Liga’s Real Mallorca.
Turner has UEFA’s broadcast rights locked up in the United States through 2022. McCarthy notes that a new deal for Nash has not been finalized. Turner has declined to comment.
