It has been a tumultuous past fifteen months for beIN Sports. The network has lost distribution on a number of cable and satellite systems and as a result has lost some live sports rights.
Thursday was different though. Front Office Sports is reporting that beIN is close to renewing its US TV rights deal with Spain’s top soccer league, La Liga.
La Liga is considered one of the world’s top two professional soccer leagues. It is also a marketing machine with internationally recognized sports brands like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona and some of the biggest names in soccer like Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos.
beIN will lose US TV rights to Italy’s Serie A and Germany’s Bundesliga when their current deals expire. Both leagues will head to ESPN+ for their US broadcasts.
The network has a relationship with La Liga that extends beyond the United States. Front Office Sports credits that relationship as a major reason the two sides are nearing a new deal. It also doesn’t hurt that beIN is willing to offer La Liga some flexibility. beIN will allow La Liga content to appear on other US platforms and is expected to sublicense games to other networks on a weekly basis.
