Chris Carlin Launching Night Show On ESPN New York

Four months after being let go by WFAN, Chris Carlin is returning to the New York sports radio scene.

While filling in on ESPN New York’s The Michael Kay Show Tuesday afternoon, Carlin announced he’s officially joining the station as their weeknight host beginning Jan. 2, 2020.

Carlin was paired with Maggie Gray and Bart Scott on Entercom’s WFAN two years ago to replace Mike Francesa in afternoon drive. When Francesa abruptly returned four months after his departure, Carlin, Maggie and Bart were squeezed into the station’s 1 – 3pm timeslot.

As WFAN began preparing for Francesa to leave afternoon drive for a second time in two years, the station let Carlin go prior to the start of the fall ratings book. The former Mike and the Mad Dog producer and longtime New York sports radio personality will now join ESPN New York in a full-time capacity.

Carlin will host nightly from 7 – 10pm, taking over for Alan Hahn who moves to early afternoons on the station.

With Stephen A. Smith departing his nationally syndicated 1 – 3pm show, ESPN New York will fill the void with local content featuring Hahn. The station has not officially announced the new 1 – 3pm show, but while welcoming Chris Carlin to the station via Twitter, Michael Kay also confirmed Hahn’s move to early afternoons.

The addition of Carlin and shift of Hahn were both previously reported by The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand. Marchand also stated Carlin’s old radio partner, Bart Scott is departing Entercom and WFAN for ESPN New York where he’ll join Hahn daily from 1 – 3pm in 2020.

Scott is still under contract with Entercom through the end of the year and remains on WFAN’s schedule for two days this week, Dec 18 – 19. ESPN can’t announce Scott will be joining the station until he’s no longer with Entercom, but Hahn not so subtly confirmed the former Jets’ linebacker will be his new co-host.

While ESPN New York has caught WFAN in the ratings race during afternoon drive, they’ll now attempt to do the same with their other weekday shows. Beginning next month, ESPN New York will now be local from 10am – midnight.

10am – 1pm – Humpty, Canty and Rothenberg
  1pm – 3pm – Alan Hahn and Bart Scott
