ESPN Sets Jan 30 Premier For Micahel Vick 30 For 30

ESPN’s next 30 for 30 documentary will be a two-parter about the life and career of former NFL star Michael Vick. Part 2 of Vick will premier on Thursday, January 30 at 9pm. Part two will debut one week later.

Stanley Nelson will direct the documentary. He has made other films documenting the history of pop culture including Miles Davis: Birth of Cool.

“As a historical documentary filmmaker, I was interested in placing Michael Vick’s life within larger historical narratives – narratives about race and sports, poverty and power, and about the criminal justice system,” Nelson said in a press release. “In the film, we get to see how Vick’s childhood affects the choices he makes, as well as how these larger social forces shape his trajectory. I hope that viewers of the film can gain a fuller understanding of the social context that gave rise to Vick’s story, as well as its reverberating impact.”

The movie will certainly cover Vick’s arrest and incarceration following charges stemming from a dog fighting ring that was run from a property he owned in Virginia. It will also cover his football career, starting with his high school days in Newport News, Virginia and into his days in the NFL, both before and after serving time in prison.

Screeners for members of the media will be made available upon request according to an ESPN press release.
