KXNO was one of the sports stations hit the hardest by iHeartMedia’s recent “employee dislocations.” On Monday, the Des Moines station lost six employees to the company’s job cuts. The station went from live and local content throughout the weekday to just one local show in afternoon drive.
On Thursday, Barrett Sports Media received word that fan and advertiser outcry and the protests of early afternoon hosts Keith Murphy and Andy Fales did not fall on deaf ears. Murphy confirmed that the station’s full lineup would return.
KXNO was heard exclusively on 1460 AM. As Murphy’s tweet noted, the station will now also be heard on an FM signal as well.
The station goes back to what listeners remember on Tuesday. Heather Burnside, Sean Roberts, and Travis Justice return to The Morning Rush. Chris Williams and Ross Peterson will return to The Sports Fanatics. Andrew Downs will also return to the station, where he serves as PD and producer of Murph & Andy.
WHO-TV in Des Moines reports that the station will be heard on a 25,000 watt stick on 106.3 FM. General manager Joel McCrea told the station that he will issue an on-air apology to KXNO listeners.
Barrett Sports Media congratulates the entire KXNO family including listeners, advertisers, and the on air lineup. We are excited to see some positive news coming out of what has been a trying time for the format and the industry as a whole.
