Bob Sturm Moves To Afternoons On The Ticket

Bob Sturm is headed to The Hardline in afternoon drive on Cumulus Media’s 1310 and 96.7 The Ticket as the Dallas sports radio shuffle continues.

Sturm is joining Corby Davidson on the show, taking over for Mike Rhyner who announced his retirement earlier this year. Rhyner, an iconic Dallas radio personality helped launch The Ticket more than a quarter-century ago. A longtime host on The Ticket himself, Sturm moves to afternoons from his midday post where he’s been for two decades.

“I am very excited to have Bob Sturm join us from 3 to 7,” Corby Davidson said in the station’s press release. “I don’t need to rattle off his credentials; he is money, plain and simple. He’s been a great friend over the past two decades and now I can’t wait for him to add to the wildly successful tradition of The Hardline on the Ticket. We are going to have a blast!”

Since 2000, Sturm and Dan McDowell hosted the station’s BaD Radio (Bob and Dan). Leaving BaD Radio opens a new opportunity for producer Jake Kemp who will now co-host the midday timeslot with McDowell. The Ticket’s midday show airs weekdays from noon – 3pm, followed by The Hardline which broadcasts until 7pm.

“Bob Sturm has earned the trust and following from our listeners for over 20 years and is one of the finest sports talk talents in America,” said Dan Bennett, Regional Vice President, Cumulus Dallas/Houston, and Dallas Market Manager. “This move made perfect sense and we are excited to entertain our listeners with the new afternoon drive team of Bob Sturm and Corby Davidson, and with Jake Kemp and Dan McDowell for BaD Radio in middays.”

After a highly successful run of two decades together, there’s no animosity as Sturm leaves the midday show. He expressed sincere gratitude for his longtime co-host and friend Dan McDowell shortly after the changes were announced, also sharing confidence in his former producer and now midday successor Jake Kemp.

“Our station lost an absolute icon in Mike Rhyner to retirement and we must all pull together to bridge that gap,” Sturm said. “I am honored to join forces with The Hardline’s Corby Davidson and Danny Balis (producer) to see what we can dream up from 3-7pm and we can’t wait to get to our mighty challenge. Dan McDowell and Jake Kemp will make a fantastic duo themselves from Noon to 3. Dan McDowell is the closest friend I might ever find in this business and I owe him an immeasurable debt.”
