After NBA center Meyers Leonard was on the receiving end of a few jabs, the pro basketball player finally fired back at a Portland sports radio host.
A lottery pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, having spent seven seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, Leonard became a popular figure with Rip City basketball fans. But his career averages of five points and four rebounds didn’t resonate as fondly with local sports talker Chad Doing. Doing co-hosts afternoon drive on NBC Sports Northwest Rip City Radio 620 with Trail Blazers play-by-play voice Travis Demers.
Last summer, Leonard joined the Miami Heat setting up his first season with an NBA team other than the Trail Blazers. With Miami playing against the Trail Blazers this past Sunday, Doing noted he didn’t feel the need to see tributes for Leonard, who was an average player at best for the franchise.
The mildly negative comment from Doing caused Leonard to respond.
Although it was the first time Leonard fired back at Doing, Peter Socotch of NBC Sports Northwest notes it wasn’t the first time the radio host called out the NBA center on Twitter.
According to Doing, he was already previously blocked by Leonard which means the former Trail Blazers center was not tagged in his tweet. Leonard was, however, tagged in the tweet that Doing retweeted, so he did not need to follow in Kevin Durant’s footsteps with a burner account to find the mention.
