Jerry Schemmel Joins 104.3 the Fan

Longtime Denver sportscaster Jerry Schemmel is joining Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan as an on-air contributor. Earlier this year, Schemmel was let go as the Colorado Rockies radio play-by-play voice amid a significant amount of layoffs by iHeart in January.

The new partnership will see 104.3 The Fan carry Schemmel’s show Amazing Americans Sunday mornings at 7:30am beginning April 26. Schemmel will also contribute to 104.3 The Fan in a digital capacity and appear on the station’s lineup of local shows providing Rockies and Nuggets analysis.

“There is no more respected figure in Denver media than Jerry Schemmel. He’s a man of the highest integrity and professionalism,” 104.3 The Fan program director Raj Sharan said in the press release. “Jerry has served as the soundtrack of so many great Denver sports moments. It’s only fitting that in the year of our 25th anniversary, we welcome back one of the legendary voices in the history of our radio station.”

Schemmel has been a recognizable voice in Colorado for decades, having served as the play-by-play announcer for the Denver Nuggets from 1992 – 2010, then calling games for the Rockies from 2010 though the 2019 season.

Beyond sportscasting, Schemmel was amazingly one of 184 people to survive a plane crash in 1989. He’s since authored two books, Chosen to Live and The Extravagant Gift. Every year since 2007, Schemmel rides his bicycle 112 miles to Colorado Springs and back, one mile for each life lost, to honor the victims of the crash.
