Deadspin’s entire staff resigned en masse in October effectively killing the brand. The move was made in response to G/O Media firing editor Barry Petchesky. Since then, some of those writers have staged temporary reunions. The most notable was for Super Bowl week and bankrolled by online security company Dashlane.
A new reunion of former Deadspin staffers has emerged under the name Unnamed Temporary Sports Blog. The promotion will run for a week in celebration of 4/20 and is being backed by Sunsoil, a company that makes CBD oil products.
“Over the course of the next week, April 20 through April 24, we will once again be publishing blogs for your reading pleasure,” Tom Ley explained in the first post on the site. “At the conclusion of this period we will vanish once more.”
Maxwell Tani offered more details in a story for The Daily Beast. He reports that over a dozen former Deadspin staffers are involved in the Temporary Sports Blog project. They will write about the “latest in sports, culture and politics in the wake of coronavirus.”
