There have been seemingly endless amounts of shocking videos shared on social media in the last week. One of the more surprising ones featured 15-year NBA veteran JR Smith beating up a looter.
Smith joined The Pat McAfee Show on Monday and stated he was “disappointed” in himself over the incident, even though social media was mostly in support of the former NBA player’s actions.
TMZ obtained video of the 6’ 6” 225-pound professional athlete kicking and punching a vandal who attempted to break into Smith’s car. Smith said he was walking back after handing out waters to peaceful protesters in his neighborhood when he saw the man attempting to break into his car.
“I’m 34 years old, I have four little girls at home…regardless of the fact whether it was right or wrong, I don’t want them to have the image of their dad being capable of doing that,” Smith told McAfee.
Smith also said he’s the only black person on his block and called the looting incident “a random act of stupidness.”
“Now granted, if he would’ve seen me outside the house, do I think he would’ve broken it? Absolutely not,” Smith said “It was just a random act of stupidness and I give him that. But that ass whooping was an act of stupidness on my behalf,”
McAfee admitted the incident wasn’t a great look, but did highlight that Smith was at the protests fighting for his daughters’ future. “And that person that is vandalizing your window and vandalizing property is taking away from the message that is potentially helping your daughters in the future that we all want to see happen,” McAfee said.
