ESPN Radio is moving closer to a lineup overhaul and they might not have to look very far for their next star. According to Outkick’s Bobby Burack, ESPN is nearing a deal that will see Mike Greenberg return to their weekday radio schedule.
In April, Andrew Marchand of The New York Post reported a return to radio for Greenberg wasn’t out of the question, but now it appears imminent. Outkick states the show time hasn’t been finalized for the Greeny, but noon – 3pm ET is likely.
For 19 years he co-hosted ESPN Radio’s morning show alongside Mike Golic, and while his next radio timeslot is yet to be defined, morning drive is off the table. If he does return to radio, it won’t affect his TV role with Get Up, which airs weekday mornings on ESPN.
ESPN Radio is in need of some high-profile stability following the departure of Stephen A. Smith, the expectation of Will Cain leaving for FOX News, and the belief of Trey Wingo wanting out of the network’s morning show. ESPN has reportedly eyed a pairing of Keyshawn Johnson and Max Kellerman to replace Golic and Wingo in mornings, but Kellerman is prioritizing his role on First Take which airs from 10 – noon.
The pending changes offer an opportunity for ESPN Radio to inject some star power into its lineup and although Greenberg might not be the most creative selection, he’s a high-profile name who brings a track record of success.
