Mike Golic Jr To Call Hot Dog Contest Play-By-Play

This Saturday, July 4, ESPN will air Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest for the 17th consecutive year and new to the broadcast will be Mike Golic Jr.

The younger Golic will handle play-by-play for the event, replacing Adam Amin who recently departed ESPN for FOX Sports. While he may be new to the Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest, this isn’t Golic Jr.’s first involvement in an eating competition. Earlier this year, the ESPN Radio host took on famed competitive eater Joey Chestnut in a beignet eating contest prior to the College Football Playoff National Championship in New Orleans.

Golic Jr. appeared to have genetics on his side, considering his father is a big fan of the French Quarter’s fried dough.

Junior was able to put back 14 in one setting, which fell far short of the pace set by Chestnut who consumed 72. But on Independence Day, Golic Jr. will stay on the sideline and keep his focus behind the mic. Joining him on the call will be Major League Eating’s Richard Shea and reporting from ESPN’s Jason Fitz as Chestnut looks to take his 13th victory in the contest.
