Sports are back, it’s been more than three months since The Last Dance concluded on ESPN, but the Chicago Bulls doc is still making headlines.
During the series’ five-week run, Scottie Pippen was repeatedly portrayed as selfish, frustrated and underpaid, all of which reportedly led Michael Jordan’s right-hand man to be unhappy with the doc. But according to an interview with Dan Gelston of the Associated Press, Pippen said he “wasn’t upset about it.” Pippen added that he’s spoken to Jordan, who held some editorial control over the doc.
“It didn’t bother me at all,” Pippen told Gelston. “It was an opportunity for our younger generation that hadn’t seen or knew anything about basketball in the ’90s.”
The 10-episode docuseries is now available on Netflix after airing on ESPN over five straight Sunday nights in April and May. Each episode set viewership records for ESPN documentaries and according to The Worldwide Leader, it was recently nominated for three Emmy Awards:
- Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series
- Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program
- Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program.
